Jacques Badenhorst

Jacques Badenhorst is a metallurgist with over 25 years’ experience in operations and project development management of diverse mining projects, ranging from coal, gold and manganese to titanium and diamond. He is a cofounder of Maatla Energy and responsible for implementing the coal business as the Chief Executive Officer. He has been the managing director of the ASX-listed Zamanco Minerals Limited and the mineral processing company MRD.
He is a member of the South African Institute for Mining and Metallurgy, the Mine Metallurgical Managers Association and the Institute of Directors SA.
In the past, Jacques has worked for Grinaker / LTA Process Engineering and Anglo-American Corporation and MRD, implementing and operating various medium- and large-scale mineral projects.
Japie Grobler

Japie is an accountant by profession with over 19 years’ experience in company financial management, including audit, financial, income tax and transaction processing. Japie is the financial director of MRD and has working experience in financial management in diverse industries, including mining, building and construction, and auditing firms. Japie is responsible for financial management of Maatla Resources.
Mike Nell

Mike Nell a professional Mining Engineer with over 27 years’ experience in mining operations (opencast and underground), development of mines, mining company leadership and mining consulting. From 2006 to 2010 he was Managing Director of TSX listed Homeland Mining & Energy SA Pty Ltd, where he built the company’s first operating mine in South Africa managing over 450 people.
2011 he was appointed as COO of Continental Coal Ltd, managing 300 people.
Other previous employers include Anglo American, MRD, Injula Mining and Erlank Mining. Mike is responsible for the development of the Mmamabula Coal Mine.

Bertus Venter

Bertus Venter is a member of the Maatla Resources Board of Directors and the Director Marketing & Logistics. He has over 30 years of experience in the mining industry including deployments in Finance and Administration Management, Inbound and Outbound Logistics Management, Operational Management, Health and Safety Management, Human Resource Management, Commercial Management, Procurement and Sales Management. He holds UNISA B Compt degree and has extensive experience in start-up of the South African coal mining ventures. Bertus is the Managing director of HMS Bergbau Africa (Pty.) Ltd and coordinates the HMS group’s investments and trading operations in South Africa.
George Gericke

George has 34 years’ experience in the mining, petrochemical, power generation and construction industry in the design, fabrication and building of industrial plants. George has come through the ranks as a mechanic and foreman to become the projects and engineering manager of larger industrial companies. George formed engineering and construction firm MD Engineering and he is an executive Director of MRD. George has designed and constructed large and medium processing plants and mine infrastructure at New Vaal Colliery, Koornfontein Mine, Gloria Mine, Eskom Hendrina Power Station Kendal Colliery and Minas de Moatize. George is responsible for the design and construction of the mine infrastructure at Mmamabula Colliery.
Dr. Mike Seeger

Mike is a mining engineer with 22 years’ experience in mining operations, mine development and funding of mining projects. Mike is the managing director of mining advisory firm MX Mining Capital Advisors, was a cofounder of ASX-listed Universal Coal and managing director of opencast mining company Ingula Mining Operations. Mike has developed, operated and advised mines and mining projects in the coal, gold, titanium and metals sectors in Africa, South and North America and Europe, including Iscor, Anglo American, Ashanti Goldfields, Newmont, Kaiser Aluminium and Goldfields. Mike is responsible for developing the feasibility study, securing of mining finance and markets for Maatla Resources as an independent advisor.
